Jones in Anglesey!!

I know this is a long shot, but ive hit a brick wall and am hoping that someone with more knowledge than me can help!

I am trying to trace the marriage of Hugh Jones and Anne Owen from Anglesey and have been unsuccessful with GRO and various other searches on line.

Hugh was born in c 1856 in Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog, Anglesey and Anne was born in 1857 in Llanddyffnan, Anglesey.

I know that their first child, Sarah, was born in 1878 in Anglesey and that she was not listed as illegitamate at her baptism so i can only assume that Anne and Hugh married before she was born. From the census records and burial records, it looks like the family stayed in Anglesey but i have been unable to find a marriage for them, can anyone help?
I know that Annes father was Thomas Owen and her mother was Elizabeth. Thomas was noted as being a farm owner. I have no other information on Hugh.

Look forward to hearing from you all!!

Could they have married later, say because of a pre-existing marriage? It happens!

One possibility:

Marriages Sep 1865
Hughes Hugh Anglesey 11b 833
Jones Hugh Llewelyn Anglesey 11b 833
Owen Anne Anglesey 11b 833
(there's a bride missing)

I might get that and see what the bride's father's name was.

-- edit -- no, that was incredibly stupid. I was thinking the parents' birthdate as the child's! Obviously they didn't marry in 1865 ...

Also, speaking of mistranscriptions, it can be a good idea to search FreeBMD by the names separately, because a mistranscription of the volume or page number would result in them not appearing in the same list. That happens all the time too. ;)

Hi Whippet Lady

Unfortunately, i dont have any middle names for either of these two!! It is becoming a bit of a mystery.

Thanks for the info on Sarah, it fits with what i have.

Signing off now so will get back to other possible posts tomorrow.

Thanks again

I cant be 100% sure as you know how reliabel the census returns were!!!

All i have is that on 1891 census Hugh was down as being 34 years old and he died in 1914.

Anne is noted on the 1891 census as being 38 and the 1871 census shows her being 13.
I have ordered the birth certs for them both and am awaiting their return so hopefully this will be a definative answer

Thanks

So technically, the only births that fit (for a child to be 3 in the 1881 census) are:

(no Jun or Sep quarter births in 1877)

Births Dec 1877
JONES Sarah Susanna Anglesey 11b 575

Births Mar 1878
Jones Sarah Anglesey 11b 526

Births Jun 1878 (possible reg. of March birth)
Jones Sarah Catherine Anglesey 11b 606

Aargh. You have the birth.

Well, can you tell us which one it is? ;)

Hi Janey Chanuk

Thanks for all the info, much appreciated.

All i have for Sarah is her birth year of 1878 so will need to do a bit of digging to find out which one she is but thanks, you have given me a bit to work on.!
