My grandfather, Wilfred Scanlon Jones, worked for many years at J. Lyons & Co. as an engineer. We have a silver fob watch with the inscription, "Presented to W.S. Jones from his fellow workers for his bravery 8th January 1940" and would like to find out more details.
My mother understood that whilst working at J. Lyons (possibly Greenford depot) he pulled someone out of a fuel tanker who had been overcome by fumes whilst cleaning inside it.
We know no more than this and though I have been to the LMA and looked through staff magazines, have had no luck so far. Any ideas where to go next? Any help gratefully received.
