HI all i am in need of help to find John Jones born 1846 in Wordsley & his wife Lucy born in Leicester in 1854 they had 4 children as far as i know all born wolverhampton staffs their names are William 1873 Elizabeth 1875 Alfred 1877 & John1879. I have them in 1891 & 1901 census at 3 Mary Ann St Wolverhampton can anyone help with them 1n 1881 & 1911 many thanks Carol.

Thanks Jonesey now i am even more confused, the address makes sense & so does Lucy but it seems Samuel is now Tamush there is now 9 years difference & they have only been married 22 years instead of 28, Carol.

The 1911 census image could be Samuel not Tamush and has been mistranscribed

Tamush and Brierley Hull look to be mistranscriptions. Should be Samuel and Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.

Do not read too much into the years married people (Including me) often forget exactly how many.

The original schedule on the 1911 census carries a huge blot where Samuel's age is, you can just about make out that the second digit is a 4, but not what the first digit is. So the transcriber has assumed he's 54.

could anyone help with fresh eyes i have found Samuel born 1846 married Lucy Chilton in 1885 but i still can t find Samuel in or before 1881, he must of been married earlier to someone else & had three sons william, alfred & john & their sister Elizabeth many thanks carol.

As you might imagine there are lots of people called Samuel Jones who were born c 1846 in Staffordshire. From my local knowledge of the area this would appear to be the one most likely to be your man. Wordsley, Brierley Hill and Kingswinford all border one another and all came within the Stourbridge registration district,

Ive had a look through the censuses and there seems to be some of the children living with grandparents

This record is the closest I have come accross, which has Sam as a general labourer (same as 1891) and some of the children that are listed in the 1891

Ha...that 1881 census is correct. Heres the children that I couldnt identify....because they use there FULL name in 1881 and their middle name in 1891!

With a name like Jones it's not easy! Do you have his marriage certificate?

If not Id start with buying that and this will give you his fathers name

Then its a case of buying birth certifcates until you find one that matches the father

Heres a birth that I think is the closest match but without knowing his fathers name its guess work

I dont suppose you know his mothers name?
