I would like to find any descendant or ancestors of my gt.grandfather,George Jones b.1844 in 2 Chester street,Shrewsbury. His parents were Thomas and Eliza Jones (nee Holbrooke). He married Rose Hoey in Liverpool in 1870 and died in 1929 in Walton,Liverpool. They were a family of shoemakers which seems to have spanned several generations. I would love to know if there are any descendants of this family still in Shrewsbury or Shropshire.

Which of George and Rose's children was your grandparent?
I have been unable to find any census record for George Jones with the correct birth details whose spouse is named Rose

Thank you,Flick, for your extensive reseach on my behalf,I have most of this information and recently aquired George Jones's birth certificate after pursuing 2 wrong lines - there are dozens of George Jones in the area and he had stated Battlefields on the 1911 census but I found that his actual birthplace was the Castle fields area of Shrewsbury, his memory probably got mixed up as he got older. The problem is he probably lost touch with his family in Shropshire when he came to Liverpool,I have all his history from then as I have all the census's up to 1911.His wife was Rose Hoey from Louth in Ireland but there are differences in the spelling of her name on the censuses, she was Rose on her marriage certificate,Rose Ellen or Rosaline on the censuses, surname Hoey,Hoy and Hoye as she wa illiterate and also she died at a young age too so I havn't much info about her. I can remember seeing him in his coffin in the dining room of my grandmother's house in Walton,Liverpool when I was small,I thought he was having a sleep and was able to confirm later that I was 5 years old at the time and my family had just moved there to live as my grandmother Mary Jones, the only one of his 3 daughters to marry (the others died in their 20's)had recently lost one of her sons at 13 years old and had a breakdown of sorts. My mother, the only girl in her family took on the house keeping and I grew up in family home, luckily it was a large house and accomodated us all. So now I would like to find out if there are any of the Shrewsbury descendants still around - I never heard of any of them while I was in Walton but I have found much about my Grandfather who was married to my Mary Jones, from a Scottish family and found he had 10 brothers and sisters but had apparently fallen out with his father and was the only one left out of his will.I knew nothing of this until doing family history in my old age. They all lived within 3 miles of our home in Walton and I never knew any of them but have since found 2 cousins with whom I have had good communication with, one of them the youngest I have visited and talked regularly with. Thank you again for your interest,Doreen.

I have received this pm but it looks as though Doreen's reply did get through......Cx
Thanks Cynthia for your message (are you Flick who did all the research into George Jones?I'm assuming you are. I submitted an reply but it doesn't seem to have been printed,I'm getting on a bit and don't always do things correctly. Anyway,I have most of the info you found and know his history after he came to Liverpool as we lived in the family home from when he died there so that my mother could take over the housekeeping as my grandmother had recently lost her young son at 13 years old and had a breakdown.I can rememer seeing gt.grandfather in his coffin when I was about 5 thinking he was asleep. There are a few discrepancies with Rose Hoey's name on the censuses (she was illiterate)and the spellings aren;t all correct. He seems to have lost touch with his family after he married but I would like to now find out if there are any descendants still living in Shrewsbury area. Thanks again, Doreen
