This is complicated but I'm stuck.
I have a Robert Jones b. Holywell, Flintershire, abt. 1840. In 1861 census he's lodging with a Rees and Anne Ellis. In later censuses he's married to Elizabeth and living in Liverpool. I know that Rees Ellis married Anne Jones. In the 1891 census there's a John Elias Jones visiting a Hugh and Elizabeth Roberts. JEJ was listed as a cousin. Elizabeth Roberts' maiden name was Ellis, she was the daughter of Rees and Anne. I'm trying to find the connection between John Elias, Robert Jones and Anne.
John Elias Jones was born 1873 in Holywell, his father was John Jones, mother unknown.
Anne Jones was born about 1828, father Robert Jones, mother unknown.
John Elias was my husband's grandfather and I'm trying to trace backwards. I was told that there was an Uncle Robert Jones used to visit (info from my mother-in-law).
Is there some way I can find the birth of Robert, there seem to be many born in Holywell.

Thanks Mike. I do have the marriage certificate of Rees and Anne and the witnesses are shown as James Jones and Mary Jones, but I can't find a connection between them and Anne.

No, this isn't him. In the 1861 census he's shown as a shipsmith, lodging with Rees Ellis (b. abt 1829) and Anne Ellis in Poulton Cum Seacombe, Cheshire. In 1871 census he's married to Elizabeth, living at Stananought Street in Liverpool. 1881 he's living in Violet St. in Liverpool and in 1891 he's in Formanby Street, Liverpool. I just can't find anything prior to 1861.

Thanks Mike for all your offerings. Sorry I had to leave so abruptly.
I do have the birth cert you mentioned for John Elias but I don't think it's the right one. I tried to follow up on the parents and I believe they were still in Holywell in later years (John Elias was brought to Liverpool at about 3 months old). This whole thing is very frustrating - like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
