Jones in Portsmouth area

One of my ancestors was George Charles Jones, born Portsmouth 1870. At the time of the 1911 Census (Schedule 218) he was living at 39 Owen Street, Eastney, Portsmouth with his wife and six children. I have been unable to find out anything further on the family. Did any of the children marry and when did they all die?. I imagine the first port of call would be the electoral registers but as far as I know they are not available on line and I cannot get to Portsmouth. The common name of Jones makes it even more difficult. Can anyone help?

It would be very helpful if you would copy the 1911 census info here with the names and ages of the children

No need for others to go searching for that info in order to help you, and no one can help without it!

not everyone has paid access to the 1911 census

Have you searched at freebmd for marriages for the children??

To make use of ER info - not online, as you say - you would have to know the addresses.

Have you tried doing ANY post-1911 searches yourself?

Remember to enter only the INITIAL of any second forename when searching on freebmd................

You'd have to purchase marriage certs for father's details to ensure that you followed the correct line..........

Hi Anthea. two possible marriage but would need to be checked to see who their Father was on the certificates.

Florence E. married Harold Gauntlet. 1922 April/June Qtr. registered in Portsmouth.. vol 2b page 1074

Alice M. 1915. July/Sept. Qtr. to Ernest E Davey. registered i Portsmouth vol 2b 1426 OR
Alice M 1918 Jan/Mar Qtr. to Thomas J Hillyer. reg in Portsmouth. vol 2b 1079. Hope this helps.
With the other names there are lots of people with those names and it is always difficult with the boys as they often marry people from outside the area and the marriage takes place there, so cannot just go on Portsmouth,. Ethel.

too bad none of the rest of us knows what those names are ...........

so pointless to ask about people without giving their names

Flick

I can see several possible records on freebmd......you really should do this searching yourself.

There is absolutely no need to ask for help, when all the records are FREE

How nice, Barbara criticises and moans and then deletes, what a way to treat other members' threads.

I am sorry I did not give more details but all I had was from the 1911 census which Cathereine has given me. Up to now I have had too many possibilities to proceed with any confidence but thank you for the probable deaths of Alice and George which means i can now get death certificates to confirm that I am on the right track
