Lavinia Report 29 Aug 2007 14:34

I'm trying to find any information on my great grandad Thomas Jones, He was married to Fanny Dyde and worked as an engine driver at the local coal mine. His mum was Margaret Till and his father was Henry Jones. I dont have any brothers or sisters and i'm sure he would have had some. He came from Burslem in Staffordshire. Any information would be gratefully recieved.

On the 1871 England census:

In 15 Wise Street, Dresden? Blurton and Trentham:

Henry Jones c1843 Cheadle, China Painter
Margaret c1842 Hanley
Margaret Ann c1867 Dresden
Ann Elizabeth Till c1858 Hanley, Visitor, Sister

On the 1881 census:

In 8 Wise Street, Dresden, Trentham:

Henry Jones c1843 Cheadle, China Painter, Widower
Margaret A c1867 Dresden
Harry c1876 Dresden

On the 1891 census:

In 29 Ronald Street, Trentham:

Henry Jones c1843 Cheadle, Potters Designer, Widower
Margaret A c1867 Longton

Seems strange that the 7 year old Thomas was not with his father on the 1881 census.

Haven't a clue about the geography of that area, is Burslem near Trentham?

There is an alternative Thomas Jones c1874 Burslem on the 1881 census with his parents Henry and Ann M. He also appears on the 1891 census with his mother Ann, his occupation was Pumping Engine Man. He has a sister Roseann and brother Harry. They lived in Hanley, which is where Thomas and Fannys first 2 children were born.

Good Hunting
