Trying to find my Grandfather

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

*♫*♥*Janice*♥*♪* Report 16 Sep 2010 19:20

Last year I discovered that my grandfather wasnt really my grandfather at all.
My grandmother told my mother and her 4 siplings that their father was CHARLES WILLIAM ROE her late husband. CHARLES was wounded in WW1 and died of his wounds in hospital in 1921. Therefore however he couldnt have fathered 4 children born in 1920, 1923, 2x1926, 1930.
Mum had 4 older siplings, who are Charles children.
• My grandmother was Gertrude Laura Roe and her children were:
• William James Roe Blake 1908 – 2006
• Ivy Lottie Laura Roe 1911-1917
• Reginald Ernest Claude Roe 1913-1914
• Gertrude Laura Roe 1915-2006
• Ronald Edward Roe 1920-1984
• Irene King Roe 1926-
• Stanley King Roe 1926-2008
• Beryl Emily King Roe 1930-2007

Mum recalls family friends by the name of King. They lived in Ashby Street, Norwich. The head was Edward King.
Mum and her family lived at 39 Norfolk Street. Both these address are in the parish of Heigham, Norwich.

I know I may never find out who my grandfather was but my mother who is now 86, longs to know. Until last year, she thought it was Charles.

Thanks to anyone who might know how I should go about this or if you can help me in anyway what so ever.

Thats Ronald, with the middle name of Edward. Charles was still alive when he was born, although in the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

Mum doesnt remember anyone living there, although she was told later in her life that there was. My gran took her to Charles grave and told her he was her father but she thought then she didnt remember a man ever living at home.

Thats right, there is no dad on any of them

First child William James was born prior to parents marriage.
The inclusion of the name Roe would suggest however that he was Charles's son.

I hardly think your gran would have given all those children the name King for nothing.

Thats right, and I think it has something to do with these family friends mum remembers. They use to visit their home and the head of the family was Edward king.
