Hi

I am trying to find information on the above Maurice E Lee born 1911 Halifax, he had 1 sibling that I know of Marian Lee born 1916. Their parents were Gertrude (nee Longbottom) and Willie Lee.

Do any of these appear on your tree??

for info, Maurice's birth --

Births Dec 1911
Lee Maurice E Longbotton Halifax 9a 744

The mother's surname has been transcribed incorrectly (I assume -- I didn't check the image).

You might want to take a look at the image at FreeBMD.

If it's mistranscribed, you can submit a correction. The error could be in the GRO entry. Either way, you can attach a postem to the FreeBMD record and give an email address, and anyone looking at the record would be able to contact you.

(I recommend getting a permanent anonymous online address, like at www.gmail.com, to use for things like this.)

The searchable post-1984 deaths index at Ancestry doesn't show the death of anyone whose birthdate would match that rrecord.

I seem to have found a Maurice E Lee on Ancestry New York Passenger Lists 1820-1857.

Would some kind person who has access to American records do a look up for me please and confirm his age. My Maurice was born 1911 Halifax, West Yorkshire. Other people travelling could be William Lee his father or Marian/Marion his sister (born 1916).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Everyone

Ok I have bought his birth certificate and his full name is Maurice Edward Lee born 15 Sept 1911, his birth was not registered until 20th Oct 1911.

The address given is 13 Lower Shelf, Shelf, Halifax - does anyone know if this street still exists?

I have also checked the family in the 1911 census only Gertrude and Willie are listed but their address is 14 Lower Shelf not 13.

Which address will be correct I would imagine the birth cert to be correct but unsure.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you looking for Maurice Lee's ancestors, Amanda, or for what happened to him?

You didn't give the parents' names on the birth cert. Do they match the marriage info that Shirley posted? So are you ordering that marriage certificate to get the spouses' ages and fathers' names, if it's ancestral info you want?

Did you decide that the US death record that sablon posted didn't match your Maurice?

Oh.

You started a new one three days later with info from here ...

Rather exact duplicates, the two threads. Both being a little short on responses to info offered.

Hi Evie

I am just trying to find out anything about him or his family.

After his mother died in 1918 I cannot find any trace of the family. I have bought all the certificates, marriage birth etc hoping they would bring something new to my research but nothing.

My second thread was posted on another board (tips board) to ask if anyone knew of an easier way of searching such a common name. I have trawled throught the death indexes from 1920-1984 making a record of each and every Lee who died in the Yorkshire area.

It was when I found a marriage in 1947 showing the district Wharfedale that I could have cried. Im not from Yorkshire or anywhere near and didnt realise this was also a district in Yorkshire, so I have do check all of my death indexes again, hopefully only from 1947 onwards.

Looking for my family has beenn such a challenge over the past 5 years and I enjoyed every minute of it but at the minute I am very frustrated, this is the only line I have left to explore and try to locate some relatives of my late father. I have started writing a book about his life story as he was a remarkeable man and I miss him very much but I have this gap that I am finding so hard to fill.

Thanks everyone for all your help.
