MIDDLESEX REGIMENT- FREDEICK LEE

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Rosie Report 16 Aug 2009 14:07

I am trying to find any records of Frederick Lee b1887 who was a Private in the 4th Battalion in the Middlesex Regiment. I dont know when he joined up but he was a private in 1909 and he could have been in the army for a few years before that. He was badly injured in the WW1 so he was probably discharged any between 1914 and 18.

He appears in the 1911 census in Aldershot with his wife Elsie Grace (nee lovelock( and daughter Agne Alice Lee.

Fred was born in 1887 in Canning Town,Essex and father was Matthew Lee.

I have looked at the military records but been unable to find anything about him

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Rosie

I really dont know - on his wedding certificate he is just Frederick Lee - no middle name. All I know about him is that his fathers name was Matthew -again from his marriage cet and that he was 22yrs old at the time in 1909 -- and that he was in the middlesex regiment,4th battalion From the 1911 census he was recorded as being born in canning town, essex. This ties in with his 2nd daughters place of birth in 1913 as the same which is 100% correct. There are a couple of frederick lees born in Dncaster but I'm pretty sure this wasnt my grt grandfather.

Another name on Fred's marriage certificate as a witness is Emily Jane Werrell or Wessell so ishe could be Freds married sisters name - it's not his wife Elsie's sister.

If I could find anything on him in military records it might give me a little more information but I've looked and nothing seems to match

Help needed here please !!

Can only suggest you try the Middlesex Regiment. Does anyone in the family have his medals from WW!. These would give you his regimental number to help matters. It will cost though - records from the Grenadiers cost me £30.

thanks.
the problem is that neither my mother - Fred's grandaughter - or grt aunt Marj - his 2nd daughter - remember much about Fred.

The one person who would have known about Fred would have been his youngest daughter Mary but it seems that she died in 1990. She grew up in Andover,Hants and didnt move very far away.Fred and Elsie died in 1955 in Andover.

Mary was married to Harold Broom and had 4 children born between 1948 and 1959.I have records of their births but dont know how to get in touch with them. They might be able to fill me in on a few more details on Fred if they lived locally. Very fustrating!!

I'll keep looking in military records and if anyone else comes across anything which may be of interest to me pleeease let me know

Thanks

Rapidly going round the bend
