Find Ancestors

i am trying to find members of the lee family gateshead/newcastle upon tyne....i have a marriage cert for john lee married 26th june 1881 to mary jane armstrong his witness was james brownlee john is a labourer and his father also john lee was i think a carpenter...in the 1881 census they are in the same household both down as mary brownlee's sons??? .....in 1871 census i have mary, john, mary ann, and james all as brownlee....and i cant find them in the 1861 at all...can anyone check my info to see if i am reading it right and can anyone explain the lee-brownlee problem?
