hi

can anyone help me find information about the salvation army in wiltshire in 1929

My mother was born out of wedlock in Marlborough, wilts and according to her birth certificate was born at her mothers place of residence. As she weighed only 3lbs at birth I am guessing that she was rather premature. She says that she was saved by the salvation army who fed her on raw liver because she was anaemic and they looked after her for 3 months after which she was adopted by her maternal grandparents. I would imagine that in 1929 the survival rate for such tiny babies was not very high but obviously the sally army did a good job as I am the oldest of her 7 children !!

I would love to try and find out if the Salvation Army still hold any records of babies and children they looked after - do you think that my mother would have been in a hospital run by the salvation army or in a childrens home ? I dont know anything about them at all so I would appreciate it if anyone can give me any thoughts on this or where I could find out more

Thanks everyone

Rosie
