I would love information on Ernest Lee who emigrated to Toronto, Canada sometime earlier last century. Ernest was born 1883 in Wistow, YKS, son of George Lee and Ruth, nee Lawley. He had an older sister Mary Jane also born Wistow 1881, and a younger brother William Thomas born Bradford YKS 1887. His wife's name was Lilian (nee Warhurst). The last we heard of Ernest was when he returned to the UK following his brother's death in 1954. I have a photo which was taken at that time. Any information would be appreciated. KeithT

Cdn death records aren't accessible for the time he would have died, in most provinces, including Ontario. Do you know when he immigrated? If he married in Ontario before 1932 his marriage would be findable at Ancestry, but then no births would be accessible as 1909 is the cutoff.
The marriage index is searchable by parents' names
http://search.ancestry.ca/search/db.aspx?dbid=7921
but I don't subscribe for details so can't tell whether there is a matching result.

Thanks Janey. I don't subscribe to Ancestry.com myself, so can't access intern't'l records. I'm afraid my knowledge of Ernest Lee is very scratchy. On Ancestry.co.uk I found a listing in the immigration records of his return to England in 1954. His wife was with him. Her name was shown as Lillian Lee (67). I then searched FreeBMD and found a possible marriage - Jun 1910 Bradford YKS 9b/293 Ernest Lee/Lilian Warhurst. The only other information I have is from my mother. It would have been middle to late 1940s. This was in Bradford, YKS. A young man came to her house looking for his Auntie Mary (Ernest Lee's sister). However, she had died in 1943. Over a cup of tea she learned that he is/was in the Canadian Air Force. Unfortunately the surname is all we have. Keith

1911 UK census
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx
LEE ERNEST 1884 27 Bradford LEE LILLIAN 1888 23 Bradford
His DOB matches your Ernest, so the marriage is probably him:
Marriages Jun 1910 BUCKLEY Susan Ellen Bradford 9b 293 > LEE Ernest Bradford 9b 293 OWTHWAITE Edwin Bradford 9b 293 > WARHURST Lilian Bradford 9b 293
Births Sep 1887 WARHURST Lilian Bradford Y 9b 47
There are two Lee-Warhurst births after 1911. The one in Glossop 1921 is probably accounted for by a Lee-Warhurst marriage there in 1907, and the one in Stockport 1912 by a Lee-Warhurst marriage in Manchester in 1904.
So if they had children it seems likely they left England not long after their marriage, although there are a few Lee births in Bradford district in the first half of 1911 (mother's surname not in index) and one could have been theirs.
So the young man looking for Mary was Ernest's son, presumably? And this would have been post-war, so he was in the Cdn military but survived the war.
This seems to be their return trip to Canada in 1954

LEE Ernest 1883 M 1954 Liverpool Canada Quebec LEE Lilian 1887 F 1954 Liverpool Canada Quebec
Two possibilities in outgoing for the original emigration
LEE Ernest 1882 M 1921 Liverpool Canada Quebec - accompanied by LEE Kenneth 1912 M 1921 Liverpool Canada Quebec
LEE Ernest 1882 F 1930 Southampton Canada Quebec - and the same year, both accompanying an Ernest LEE Lilian 1896 F 1930 Liverpool Canada Quebec LEE Viola 1922 F 1930 Southampton Canada Quebec (there's no Viola Lee birth in the GRO index, but it could be a mistranscriptin of Violet)
Seems a little odd. Hmm. I searched for Ernest Lee first and then for people named Lee accompanied by Ernest Lee in 1930. In fact it goes like this:
LEE Ernest 1899 M 1930 Liverpool Canada Quebec LEE Lilian 1896 F 1930 Liverpool Canada Quebec - so they seem to be a different couple (there are numerous Ernest Lee + Lilian marriages up to 1930)
and
LEE Ernest 1882 F 1930 Southampton Canada Quebec LEE Viola 1922 F 1930 Southampton Canada Quebec
Someone here who does subscribe to findmypast could have a look at them and search more effectively for Ernest and Lilian leaving England. I suggest you edit your subject line to something like
Ernest Lee, emig Canada, psngr list help please
(not sure how many characters you get!) because it would be very nice to know when they did emigrate and whether there were ever any children travelling with.
Ah, you may not be using GR to full advantage. A GR member has in her tree
Lilian (Warhurst) 1887 BRADFORD West Yorkshire England (Anne)
You might also just do a tree search for any Lee born in Toronto 1911-1931, say. There are about 2 dozen results, some duplicates. You could just try contacting the tree owners to enquire!

Thanks again Janey. You have helped me a lot. I now know that they were still in England in 1911. You suggested the heading change, and also to look on others' trees. I'm probably trying to do too many things at once. I have sent a message to Anne, who has a Lilian Warhurst in her tree. I'll now wait for her reply. She might have the answers I need. Cheers, Keith.

Thanks Denise. Unfortunately there appear to be a few Ernest/Lilians about. I am sure that "my" Ernest was born sometime between 2 Apr (census date 1911) and 31 Dec 1883. So the birth date of 1885 seems to be for a different Ernest.
