I am trying to locate my brother-in-law. He was born in Wigan / Shevington, married in Troon Scotland. Is it possible to view Scottish marriages?

It depends what years you are talking about . I believe from about 1921 you cant view the cert but you can order it throught the site at a cost .

What happened to the reply above? Has it been removed? So sorry for not coming back sooner.

The marriage was in 1991 in Troon. Can i buy the details did you mean on here?

I will keep coming back daily now. Many thanks.

You can search for Scottish records on

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

It is pay per view and you can order any certificates from them

Hi again,
i found the marriage which is fantastic! But now i have another problem.

I purchased the tokens and am looking for the birth of the `bride`. When i looked for the name as on the marriage certificate i cannot find that on the Scottish website at all.

Any advise appreciated.

Jane.

Are you certain that the "bride" was, infact, born, here, in Scotland?

There are assuptions, that have been proven wrong!

Have you tried finding her on a census to see where she was born.

Hi,
yes she was born in Scotland.

I haven`t used the census before - are they easy to view and understand?

Hi Jane

Sounds as though you are new to all this.

Censuses were taken every 10 years from 1841-1911 (that you can get access to). The 1881 census is free to search on several websites, for the others you'll need a subscription (for England and Wales) to one of the other sites - which most of us on here have got. If you have lots of relatives to research, you might want to get your own subscription (Ancestry is very good in my opinion, you can have a free 14-day trial), but people on here will look them up for you too. You can view the Scottish census records on Scotlands People.

They are invaluable in tracking relatives through their lives.

However, you are looking here for a bride born long after 1911, so the census won't help. How do you know she was born in Scotland? You can't assume anything with this family history research. If you send me a private message (click on my name), I'll have a look for you.

Hi,
thanks for the messages. I am doing quite well with my tree but now i am having to look further afield and that`s where i have never done before

When we were in contact i know she was born in Scotland.

I will message you now.
Thanks.

I have Jane's message, am looking into it for her. Living relatives obviously.

I think Jane mustn't have had her specs on, cos I've found the person on Scotlands People.
