Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find info about my gg grandfather George Lee, who married Emma Wadey in 1856. The censuses of 1841-71 have him as born in Houghton or Bury in Sussex around 1833. Unfortunately, there seems to have been another George Lee born in this area the same year (this other George married Elizabeth Sheppard and is not the one I'm looking for!). It's possible that my George had Irish ancestry. George & Emma had 5 children - Fanny (b 1857, m George Sparshott), William (b 1860), George (b 1863), Edward (b 1865, m Sarah Glasspoole) and Ann (b 1867). Big thanks to anyone who can help. Karl, I think Elizabeth Jane is George Lee's cousin, but I'm not sure. There are so many Lees in the West Sussex villages at that time that it's difficult to work out the family connections, but I'll let you know if I find out anything more.

Linda, thank you so much for that. That's really interesting and definitely the right family. Emma in fact lived to a ripe old age - I think she was in her 80s when she died, many years after her husband. But that is so strange about not being on the 1871 census. I wonder where she was? Visiting her family maybe?
