Find Ancestors

I am in possession of a marriage certificate, dated 1850.

It says my long distant relative Evan Lewis (b1823) was a farmer in the Parish of

YSTRAD FYLTTIW

or

YSTRAD FYLLHIW

or something that looks very similar.

Has anyone got a clue as to what the last word of the parish is, and if so where is it in Glamorgan.

I have looked everywhere and can find nothing coming close?

Unfortunately its definately not Fodwg? The second word definately begins 'Fy' and ends in a 'w'. But thanks having a go.

Evan Lewis strangely was farming iin Ystrad Fy???w when he married, but married a woman from another unreadable place in the Parish of St Peters Carmarthen. Her name was Mary Evans. And thats all I know about her. On the certificate it says she was 'of full age'. I guess that means she was old enough to marry. So as a rough guess I'd say she may have been close to Evans age which was 27 assuming he was born in 1823.

had a look - Fyllin? Fyllin is a fairly common suffix in Welsh place names

I would say looking at the cert the 2nd name ends in 'in' and i agree there is a y for 2nd letter.It looks like Lyltlin? is def Ystrad the 1st word.My advise would be to contact Glamorgan Record Office and perhaps send them a copy of the cert via email.The cert def says in the parish of Glamorganshire but i have looked through the parishes of Glamorgan and nothing really looks like this name-although there are Ystrad starting parishes.I wonder if the gentleman who wrote the cert couldn't spell the name?and hence why we cannot find it?

Thank you all so much for the help so far recieved, its much appreciated, I just wish the problems that I find weren't so damned hard to sort out. But hey ho, thats what makes this a facinating hobby.

Yes thats my Evan Lewis.

I find it odd but not implausible that when he got old enough, he packed his bags moved to a new county to become a farmer, then as soon as he gets married he moves back to Carmarthen to further enhance the Lewis line that I belong to. I wish I could see back in time, there is some interesting stuff back there.

After a recent visit to the archives at Carmarthen I can now confirm that the Ystrad in question is actually

Ystrad Fellte the entry into the register is almost illegible, but the county would have been Breconshire and not Glamorgan as written, strange that. But thats what todays officials say.
