Adopted girl b Mar 1909 known as Maida Lewis, Aber

At some point after 1911, a girl born in March 1909 was 'adopted' by George and Mattie Lewis (nee Harries) in Six Bells, Abertillery, Wales. She went by the name Maida Lewis, but that doesn't appear to have been her real name. The DOB she used was March 1909, but perhaps this is incorrect too.
George (b 1873 Newport) was the son of James Lewis (b1845 Monmouth area/Welsh Newton) and Harriet Frances James (b 1845 Whitchurch).
Mattie (Martha Ann) Harries came from Penarth near Cardiff, daughter of Thomas and Mary Harries.
I know what happened to Maida in later life - marriage, children, death - but I have no idea about her roots.
In the 1911 census she is not living with George & Mattie so is presumably with her real parents or perhaps in an institution.
A very long shot I know, but just maybe there's someone reading this with a girl on their tree who just disappears, or someone trying to find out what happened to their relative who was adopted!
Although it's probably not her real name, I've looked at all the Maidas alive in 1911 and can't see anyone likely. Maida isn't a particularly common name so I'd appreciate hearing from anyone for whom it is a family name too please.
Here's hoping!
Thanks.

Sorry.... deleted the Maida David information as it is probably incorrect. Found a marriage for Maida David in Bridgend 1935.

This is the message I deleted:

There was no such thing as offical adoption at the time you are talking about. This didn't happen until about 1927. Adoption pre-1927 was usually arranged between family, friends or neighbours.

Maybe her given name was Maida and they just changed the surname, in which case is this a possibility ?

Births Jun 1909 (>99%)

David Maida Bridgend 11a 1042

If she was born in March birth registration could be in the June Quarter.

Maybe the right one Helen

This looks like the marriage of Thomas and Ethel

Marriages Sep 1906 (>99%)
>>>>>>>DAVID Thomas John Bridgend 11a 1367
DAVIES Thomas John Bridgend 11a 1367
>>>>>>LEWIS Ethel Jane Bridgend 11a 1367

Maybe Ethel is Georges Sister !!

Thanks for trying to help Pam and Barbara. I appreciate that this was pre formal adoption procedures.
I've looked at Maida David too and several others, but there seem to be likely marriages or deaths for all of them!
I do have Maida's marr cert, but it just gives George Lewis as her father unfortunately.
I guess I have to wait until the 1921 census when at least I should be able to find a place of birth, but if anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears!
Thanks again.
