Could do with some help again! I'm trying to locate Mary Ann Lewis who is shown in this census as Mary A Richards. You can see that her two brothers are living with her, william 21 and john 36. Mary herself is 27. There is a huge age gap between her and john and I believe this is causing me some problem in finding the family together. To be honest I cant even find Mary and her younger brother together for definite. Can any one help? Name: Thomas Richards Age: 29 Estimated birth year: abt 1862 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Mary A Gender: Male Where born: Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales Civil parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Pontypridd St Catherine Town: Middle County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Name: Mary A Richards Age: 27 Estimated birth year: abt 1864 Relation: Wife Spouse's name: Thomas Gender: Female Where born: Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales Civil parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Pontypridd St Catherine Town: Middle County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Name: Elizabeth A Richards Age: 4 Estimated birth year: abt 1887 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: Thomas Mother's Name: Mary A Gender: Female Where born: Ystraddyfodwg (Ystradyfodwg), Glamorgan, Wales Civil parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Pontypridd St Catherine Town: Middle County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Name: William R Richards Age: 3 Estimated birth year: abt 1888 Relation: Son Father's Name: Thomas Mother's Name: Mary A Gender: Male Where born: Ystraddyfodwg (Ystradyfodwg), Glamorgan, Wales Civil parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Pontypridd St Catherine Town: Middle County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Name: Mary Richards Age: 1 Estimated birth year: abt 1890 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: Thomas Mother's Name: Mary A Gender: Female Where born: Ystraddyfodwg (Ystradyfodwg), Glamorgan, Wales Civil parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Pontypridd St Catherine Name: John Rees Age: 36 Estimated birth year: abt 1855 Relation: Brother-in-law Gender: Male Where born: Aberafan, Glamorgan, Wales Civil parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Pontypridd St Catherine Town: Middle County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales Name: William Rees Age: 21 Estimated birth year: abt 1870 Relation: Brother-in-law Gender: Male Where born: Aberafan, Glamorgan, Wales Civil parish: Ystradyfodwg Ecclesiastical parish: Pontypridd St Catherine Town: Middle County/Island: Glamorgan Country: Wales

Urgh, I can't see much of anything! so much text, so much of it extraneous. I'm wishing everybody would desert FMP and go with the nice straightforward Ancestry cut&pastes. ;) -- Actually, I guess that's what that is, it's just that each entry is copied all run on.
But anyhow -- her two brothers in that census have surname Rees? How does this come in, with her being Mary Ann Lewis? Richards appears to be her married surname.
Where are you trying to locate her? Before or after this census (which would be the 1891 it seems)?

Have you checked for a Rees/Lewis marriage in case John Rees married her sister
Or a Rees/Richards marriage to see if they are related to him rather than her
Unless she had been married before

Sorry folks!!! Trying to locate Mary Ann Rees. Got mixed up . Lewis my other grandparent!!! Trying to locate her before the census so I can find her parents. I'm done then on this line. Too much headwork! Would be OK if I could find marriage. Would have no prob sending for certificate. Can you tell me one thing. How do you search for two names when looking for a marriage cert. When I search I only look for Thomas Richards for example and try and guess the year! All help ideas gratefully accepted. On the point of too much text - I am new to this - will look into Ancestry. I am a member. cheers, Ken

FreeBMD. Just search for a marriage with the two names. ;)
Ancestry and FreeBMD have differing merits. Depending on what you have to go on, one or the other may work best. If you do have two full names, FreeBMD is the one.

Janeycanuck, thank you! I cant believe i've been so dull. Ive been searching for various marriages for months now scrolling through the records. I never knew about this method. I found Thomas Richards but was unsure if it was the right marriage until i read the help bit and could see the page. and sure enough there was Mary Rees!!! I cant thank you enough, you've made my day, cheers, ken

You're very welcome. ;)
The first person who pointed me to FreeBMD probably thought I was a little dull, but I thank him every day!
