Well done Cassy - you were busy while some of us were in the land of nod!!

Hi Cassy, Think i jumped the gun when I opened yr note re children. How on earth did you find Robert snr. I have 1911 census but no middle initial for him. His mc stated he was born in Westminster and father a plasterer but this man I can´t find despite searches. William Redwood snr (his son also William) married Maud Mary Lucas, was son of Henry Redwood b c 1858 in Germany. He is widower in 1911, wife Tina also b Germany. Were they interned during WWII. Am anxious to find this branch of the family, Wlm jnr was member of Royal Household. Again thanks for help. I´ll get certs, but do have William Osborne Lucas. Again many thanks for your help. Liverbird 1. and Rootgatherer I must thank you as well for your help. But can i ask where you found Robert Lucas snr middle initial M? It is not on the my copy of the 1911 census nor on his army records. I´ve been trying to find out where he came from and who his parents were. Obviously with a common name as his, it has been very hard, well for me anyway, to find out exactly where he came from. Many thanks to you all.

I don't think that M is his initial I think it must stand for Male or female.

It must be the Spanish sun!! if I read your notes properly I would know that the ´M´ stands for Male.

I have searched again for Robert Lucas b 1869. He states on his mc his father was born in Westminster and a plasterer. No such man exists. The only father of Robert b 1869 is James and Mary. I have researched this line and in 1901 their Robert is married to a Minnie Hogg.

If you can shed any light, or how I can find out I would be grateful. Many thanks.

I am wondering now if we have the correct Robert Lucas. The 1901 census I posted Robert's occupation appears to be a Dustman. What was his father's name on his marriage certificate?

The only one about the correct birth year and born in Westminster on earlier census is indeed the son of James and Mary. In 1881 James's occupation is a Scripture Reader and in 1891 he is a Police Court Missionary!

Assuming the 1901 census is correct, I think it looks as though Robert didn't give his correct place of birth - or was it his year of birth? As you have said the other Robert Lucas on earlier census can be followed through i.e the ones born in the London area.

Tks Rootgatherer. The James Lucas line has been well researched and his Robert was married to a Minnie Hogg in 1901. Robert stated on his mc that his father Robert, was a plasterer and born in Westminster. He was a dustman in 1901 and a sweeper in 1911. I wrote to Westminster CC and they have some records, so I will go to see them when I go to UK later in the year. I have since found out that he left his family at some stage - he was not a witness to one of his daughter´s wedding in 1918. He was in WWI returning to UK in 1916 from France. A letter (of reference) from Westmnster CC stated .."entered the service of Westminster as carman in March 1893, previously carman to timber merchant transferred to City Council in 1901." Tks
