Find Ancestors

Can anyone tell me, other than applying for the marriage certificates, how I can find the parents, occupation, place of birth, etc of the following; Willam Gadsdun married Elizabeth Bell in Chesterfield in O/N/D 1864 (record no.7.b.955). William Garrad mar Jane Brothwell in Mansfield in O/NO/D 1859 (record no. 7.b.146). James Allport mar Emily Wright in Rotherham in O/N/D 1880 (record 9.c.809).
I live in Australia now so finding it difficult now I have exhaused the census.

I know that James Allport married Emily Wright in Rotherham in O/N/D 1880 and am trying to find their parents names but can't find them on the FAmily search site. For these and the others whose parents I am trying to find am I better to apply for the birth certificates please?

The best and most certain way to go back from James and Emily is to buy their marriage certificate first. That will give you their ages and their fathers' names and occupations. This helps to identify them on earlier census records and check the place of birth. When you get their birth certificates you will them have confirmation of the mothers' names.

In 1901 and 1891 James gives his birth place as Dudley - different to the 1881 census!

So, you certainly need his marriage certificate first (there is more than 1 option for a possible birth). You need his father's name and occupation.
