Hi Pauline,
I'm not sure on Sarahs maiden name......... we can't seem to find a marriage registration to match.
I would order Sarah Anns birth cert like Mrs Bucket states and hopefully it should state her maiden name.

PS....... Georges parents, could this be them??

Dee, Thanks for looking. I have had someone contact me , re George Martin, and hers is a different one. Her family also called the eldest son George. Not sure if we will ever get it sorted, Keep coming up with different answes. Re Sarah Turney, i found a marriage for her to a George Martin in 1848, so am inclined to go with that Pauline

Dee On the 1881 census that i know is the right family, With My granfather as 1 yr There are three GUY / William 21 Mary Ann 24 and a Maud Guy I need to go back to the census and see what relation the guy family are to Mine.it does not have Great Grandad b 1857, as I have found him in prison!! So great Gran and three of the children went back to her mothers house. A very elusive lot , must have something to Hide?? i will look deeper and closer at what I have got Pauline

Hi Pauline,
FREEBMD has the same marriage, but also shows the others who married;
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Mar 1848 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHILD Jane St Saviour 4 451 Garry James Newington St Mary 4 451 GAY Frederick John St Saviour 4 451 >>>>>>>>>>>>Guy Charles Henry St. Saviour 4 451 LEWIS Charles St. Saviour 4 451 Long Lydia Catherine St Saviour 4 451 MARTIN George St Saviour 4 451 MATHIAS Martha Margaret Ball St Saviour 4 451 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Turney Sarah St Saviour 4 451
I found their marriage details on Ancestry in the LMA.
I think the only way for you to go backwards would be to order the birth cert for one of George and Sarahs children........ at least then you would have Sarahs maiden name and then hopefully we could find a marriage between them (they could have beern misplaced on the transcriptions for marriages in the BMD).
Sorry I did have another look about but didn't turn anything up. Just out of interest why do you think that William and Sarah could be his parents? George is listed as a Lighterman..... often occupations ran in families and in 1841 George would be in the right area of Bermondsey, and he always lists Bermondsey as his birth place. The William in 1841 is a Ship Wright and George is an apprentice Ship Wright......... isn't this a ship builder/repairer rather than a Lighterman who ferries goods about on ships as George states in all the censuses from 1851.
