My paternal grandmother was born Ellen Martin, daughter of John Edward Martin who was named on her marriage cert. to William Bingham in Preston 22-5-1915. JE Martin was an iron turner, living then at 68, Frank St, Preston
We know JE Martin. bought a 16 foot burial plot in Preston burial
ground on 15-8-1914 and that the following were subsequently interred there:-George Martin (14-8-1914), Ivy Martin (^-2.1925), Elizabeth A Martin(21-10-1942) and William H Martin (20-5-1943.

Ellen, (known as Nellie) was reputedly one of 17 children. Other known siblings were Ernest, Ethel and possibly Olive. J E Martin was referred to as a "Black sheep" of his family!!

So far we are drawing blanks in our attempts to locate these Martins. Lancashire seems likely.

What age was Ellen when she married please

have you found them on any census so that you know where they were born

there are about 10 Ellen Martins born in a guessed time frame - none of which can I match a mothers maiden name with a George/Olive or Ernest martin so maybe they were not born in Preston

we really do need their birth place & year of birth from the 1901 census (or 1911 if you have it)

Martin is quite a difficult name to trace esp John seems to be a fair few of them

We have Ellen's marriage cert.. She was 24 when she married.

assuming you do not have mother's details to identify the family on any census perhaps this is a possiblity

Ivy died 1925 age 15 therefore born 1909/10

wonder where they were between 1887 & 1897

This looks like them. They are lving next door to a John Martin and wife Helen age 53 and 52 born Bolton who could be your John Edward's parents. With them is a daughter Edith age 17 a stocking knitter
