Find Ancestors

I am looking for a Mary Martin who was born in 1883. I have her marriage certificate from 1903 that says her father was Alexander Martin and he was a taylor. She married Frederick Miles JAMES and they lived in Penn Street, near Amersham, Bucks. They had 4 children. Frederick, Stanley, Alice Maud and Queenie. Frederick Senior died in France in 1918 and is listed on the local memorial and also several sites. Mary James, just 3 years later qualified as a midwife and served in the local. However I cannot find her birth because I do not no where she was born. Even in the 1901 census her birthplace is not listed. Could she be adopted and Alexander gave her his name but never told her? Is there some other reason that I can't find her birth? Where is Alexander her father?

Need anyone's help please!

I think this must be her as I managed to get to our local resource centre and look at the marriage register. Her sister Alice was married 4 years later and her father Alexander was deceased by then. All I have to do now is tie things together.

I think this is the Mary Martin I am looking for. Her sister was married 4 years later to a groom with the surname Curtis and Alexander was deceased by then. I have so much information to go forward now.

Thanks for your help.
You are surely getting the hang of it.
Our local library has a good resouce department for Family History but the people there have little knowledge of how to use it. I did find one lady who was very helpful and got me so far but I only have a limited to look things up with a full time job. They tell me I can't look at the 1911 census there as they have to pay for it and my network is noe too good at home so thanks for looking this up for me and your help.
