George Mitchell of Sussex (1846)

Does anyone have George Mitchell, born Cuckfield (c1846) on their tree?

He was a carpenter, as was his father James Mitchell (c1806). He married Mary Jeffery in 1866 and on the 1871 census they have two children - Emma and Edward - plus a lodger Thomas Perk from Morton, Herefordshire (should be Perks from Moreton).

I believe Mary left George for Thomas - and have a bit of supporting evidence. Would be fascinated to find out if anyone has any of these names on their tree and can work with me on this.

Thanks

Elizabeth

Thanks for the advice. I have already done the usual searches - this is to try and make contact with anyone tracing the Mitchell or Jeffery lines in Sussex (or indeed the Perks family from Herefordshire).

Thank you

Hi Elizabeth
This is a long shot but who knows! My gr grandmother was Sarah Mitchell born in Cuckfield c1830. She married Andrew Quinlan abt 1850 and they had several children, one of whom was Michael, my grandfather. Sarah died in 1869 and Andrew in 1871. In 1881 Michael was 20 and according to the census was lodging with a George Mitchell (his uncle perhaps?) Any help?

Thanks Eleanor and very sorry not to have got back to you - lost in tinsel and New Year resolutions!

I've sent you a personal message because of the time lapse, but I can confirm now that Mary Mitchell (nee Jeffery) did run away with Thomas Perks, taking her son from her first marriage Edward Mitchell with her.

I'm still on the hunt for George her first husband.
