My dads name was George born 1942, he had many brothers and sisters:

I think thats all of them.
If anyone can give me any information at all no matter how small i would be sooooooo very grateful.

Start with some geography, Jean. Where did all this happen??

Do you not know his parents' names?

Is it the descendants of his siblings you're looking for, or information about his ancestry?

"Absolutely any information" isn't quite clear, around here. ;) You might be looking for cousins, and someone might go busily off looking for his grandparents. Give us some direction!

I'm sure you don't know the birthdates of all those siblings, but is that an approximate chronological order, oldest to youngest, say? Where does your dad fit in, in that order?

Any facts or approximate facts you can provide might help a complete stranger find some family info for you.

Geraldine (trying to help)

Have also sent this whole thread via a private message (It seems GR no longer do this!)

No, GR no longer does it, and it seems that nobody who posts here bothers to check their threads for replies. Gets more frustrating by the day. I'm starting to send out form letters just saying Please click the "my threads" link and read the replies to your danged query ... and respond to them ...

(Nothing personal at Jean here, whose query is yet new. But Sylvia -- oops, Geraldine! duh -- I wouldn't have gone doing that until we at least had what Jean knows, like places and dates and maybe even mother's name!)

Hi there, thank you all for your replies, i now know a few more bits of info. My dad was born in Cupar, Fife Scotland, his name was George Ford Milne Mitchell.
Mothers name was Alison Robertson Taylor, or Alison Jack Robertson , she was born in Kirkcaldy Scotland.
His father was James Mitchell either born in Newburgh or Auchtermuchty.
My dads dad died when my dad was around 3 years old.
My dad was the 3rd youngest. I think the eldest brother was John, and the youngest child is Moira.
Alison used to foster alot of children and was recognised for doing so. My dads 3 sisters Jean, Helen and Mary were adopted into my dads family, they were real sisters.

Jean

Your going to have problems with Scotish records as all birth records are locked from not too far into 1900's to the present day. These records are not openly available to search like the English ones are..

Wayne,
Thats what i thought and i have already found out since last night, but i did find a site called Scotlands people that im trying out at the moment, its like GR where you have to buy credits etc. So im going to have a look around on the site and see what i can come up with.
Sounds like you know a bit about tracing family history, i dont suppose you know when info after 1901 becomes available to the public?
Or if anyone else reading this knows?

WayneTracey Report 6 Dec 2007 00:05

the first release of the 1911 will be available from 2009. This will be missing certain data like infirmity, that data will not be available until 2011.

The Government are currently propagating a petition to allow the law to be changed and reduce the census waiting time to 70 years from 100, which will mean the 1911 and the 1921 census being available at the same time.

I know the Scotlands People site very well, but again you will not get the current data you require....

I have Scottish people in my tree where large holes appear i am unable to fill !!

Jean

Jean Report 6 Dec 2007 00:08

p.s

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 6 Dec 2007 14:30

1901 for the census. i think it's 1906 for births, and later for marriages and deaths

Lizdel

Lizdel Report 6 Jul 2008 16:35
