Could it have been the Fortune of War Pub in Smithfield, London, Reputed to be where the Great Fire of London 1666 stopped, demolished in 1910? Not near a beach but close to the River Thames. |

P.S. Just found out there's a Fortune of War Pub in Brighton, which is a well known seaside holiday resort in the U.K. Apparently it resembles the upside down hull of a ship. I don't know whether that's inside or outside but it definitely overlooks the beach. Try Googleing it, put The Fortune of War in the search and click on Images. Good Luck. |
