Looking for any information about an Alice Gertrude Moore born in 1873 Lythe. Her grandfather Matthew Moore was a jet miner employing 40 men in 1860. Alice is mean't to have been sent to America to live with a relation, probably when her mother died in 1886. She didn't like the way the miners were treated and ran away back to England. She was married in 1893 Durham. relations have told me this story and say there is some connection with the mines. There is a John Moore b:1831 Eng. living in New Jersey in 1880 who was an Iron Miner, Alice's grandfather Matthew had a brother called John who was born the same year could Alice have gone to live with him. Just wondering if anybody as come across an Alice Moore b;1873 or John Moore b;1831 when they have been searching the u.s. census records from 1886 to 1890. Any information would be a BIG help thanks Donna |
