Trying to find birthplace in Ireland of James b.c1840 and Robert b.c1843 children of James and Jane [Neilson/Nelson] Moore. Both boys came to the UK in late 1850s reputed to be orphaned. James married an Elizabeth [Eliza] Simpson, in Glasgow in 1863. In 1871 census James a ship's plater, and Eliza were living in Stockton on Tees, Co. Durham. In 1881 census they were back in Govan, Glasgow with daughter Jane age 8 born Stockton on Tees: Eliza age 4 born Whiteinch, Lanark: and Samuel age 2 months born Whiteinch. In the same census James and Eliza's eldest son James age 18 born Partick, Glasgow also a ship's plater is living in Govan with his maternal Grandparents David and Mary [Hill] Simpson age 58 and 57 respectively, both born Ireland. From then on I know nothing of James and Eliza's family. Did they all emigrate to the USA as we believe? I am descended from above Robert born 1843 Ireland, Ship's Foreman Boilersmith, and his wife Mary [Hewison] who married in 1872 in Stockton on Tees. In 1882 they and their family went to Denmark where my mother Yelva [Moore] Pelmear was born Feb. 1887. |
