Just beginning this search for my maternal Grandfather, I don't have much to go on so am shouting "Help please".

Thomas Morris born 1884 (guessing Glamorgan)

I have marriage certificate for maternal Grandparents:

St Margaret in parish Aberdare County Glamorgan

2nd April 1906

Thomas Morris 22 bachelor shotfirer 3 Waynes Cottages
Father William George Morris Contractor.

Lucy Williams 23 spinster, 53 Cwmaman Road
Father John Williams Collier

I have death certificate for Grandad Thomas in Berks 1948 aged 64yrs, and both certificates confirm his birth year as 1884.
I have no idea which one of the many Thomas Morris belongs to me so any help would be a bonus.

Hello K........ could be him, the age and his Fathers name would be right. I have no idea who the Evans family they are boarding with are?

The witnesses at the wedding are a David Williams and W.G.Morris..... this has to be Thomas Father William George Morris full name on marriage certificate..... not easy is it... and who and where is Thomas Mother with Evans household?

Hello Lesley

Thanks for input. What a lot of Williams there are and David Williams witness on marriage certificate is obviously Lucy's brother.

Hi Gloria

In 1901 William is still listed as married and they were living in the same District of Aberdare as Lucy and family. Interesting that William George was a witness at the wedding possibly signifying that other relatives were not in the area at the time and tying in with the detials in 1901

Will try and check on previous census for the family

Thanks Kay, I wondered if Grandad Thomas Morris had any siblings... I have no idea as previously I had just his marriage and death certificates to pinpoint his birth. I don't know his Mothers name either.

Evidently grandad Thomas liked to change jobs.
He is a colliery labourer in 1901 census, then a shotfirer in 1906 marriage cert.
He is a colliery blacksmith on my Mum's birth cert in 1909 and on my parents marriage certificate in April 1932 Thomas Morris is a Grocer Account Collector.
Grandfather Thomas death certificate has him aged 64 as retired school caretaker.

I can't see a match pre 1901 having followed several possibles through the census. The trouble is that the Rhondda Valley covers so many settlements

Re Thomas's job he was presumably working in the coal mine for the majoirty of his work as the shot firer would probably have been in the mine

Sorry not to have been of more help but I will continue to look

I have decided to close this particular thread now
but plan to ask for help elsewhere, hopefully I might get lucky.

Thanks very much to Kay and Lesley for your help.
