Charles Jones Morris b 28 August 1882

Angel Report 10 May 2009 08:51

Can anyone tell me who the father of Charles Jones Morris is?

He was born on 28 August 1882 at 107 Herbert Road, Deritend, Aston, Birmingham and his father is not stated on his birth certificate. His mother is stated as Elizabeth Ann Morris, a dressmaker.
His marriage certificate states his father as Richard Morris, a gunsmith.

Can anyone tell me perhaps from family recollections passed down the line whether in fact this is true or point me in a direction where I can verify this (or disprove it).

I know for a fact that things went on in the Morris family that should not happen and if someone can tell me whether that is what happened here I would be very grateful as it will save me a lot of time.

I just want my tree to reflect fact rather than fiction irrespective of whether there are relationships that shouldn't really have taken place. It's my heritage whether it is good or bad.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Illegitimate children often cited their grandfather as their father on the marriage cert as it gave them,,respectability,,to be able to name a father, even if it was ficticious.
I had one the other day exactly the same for a woman in my D.I.L s tree.
Jones as his middle name may mean that his father was a jones,or it may have been his grandmothers maiden name.

Thanks Vivienne - I'll look into the Jones side to see what the connection is there. I know what you mean about grandparents claiming to be parents to give respectability. My sister's friend was brought up by her grandparents and believed them to be her parents. Her 'sister' was actually her mother.

I am purely looking for the facts of my blood line and base my results on evidence. I am finding conflicting evidence between censuses and certificates where it is clear in some cases that relationships to the head of house are mis-stated to attempt to cover up the truth.

I do know for a fact that incest / sexual abuse of children has happened on my maternal grandfather's side of the family so I am just bearing it in mind when I hit confusing data.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
