Find Ancestors

Hi I am trying to find a marriage for Joseph Nicholson b1854 in Scotland and a Mary Ann Sinclair b1852 in Carlisle. I have been searching for weeks; I just can’t find the details for this marriage. I know their first child Mary was born in 1878 in Carlisle, so I have searched from 1870 to 1878. Please can someone help me, I am pulling my hair out with frustration.

I think I would be better off looking for a needle in a manger, than this Marriage.

Perhaps they didn't marry? Or did so later than you think...........

Did you get Mary's maiden name from a child's birth certificate?

Yes I have had a Mary Ann Workman as my great grandmother on my family tree for months, only to find out I was barking up the wrong tree, I got a birth certificate for their daughter Mary Nicholson born 1878 in Carlisle, and that said mothers name was Mary A Sinclair.

Have you found Mary A Sinclair on 1861 and 1871 censuses?

I am not sure if i have found the right Mary Ann Sinclair on 1861 or 1871 censuses? I have found a couple of Mary A Sinclairs.I have just looked on the 1911 census it says they have been married for 32 years, so that should be about 1879 when they got married.
