Please could anyone help and tell me where I can find any information given at the WW1 enlistment in Cricklewood,London of my grandfather Frederick Parker born c.1886 Marylebone.

I have his death and marriage certificate and census details but there seems to be confusion over whether he was Frederick Robert or Frederick John.I had hoped that his enlistment papers would give his exact date of birth.

Thank you for any help.Wendy

Oh bother

Just found a Pension Record for Frederick Parker 1889 Marylebone BUT there are 35 images !!!!!

Was he married or the names of his parents would be useful

Updated - this one seems to be for a Frederick George Parker but for Royal Field Artillery. Parents Thomas David Parker and Emma of 283 Portman Buildings, Marylebone

Loads of the Pensions Records do not have an approx year of birth or where born

Hi Wendy

I will try and help you find it but I get lost on that site also

Go on to the Military Records
Then Scroll down to you see British Army WWI Pensions

Put in his name dob and Marylebone

He should be at the top and then just View records

Good luck

On Ancestry - select home tab

Over on right of page there should be MORE COLLECTIONS and listed MILITARY RECORDS - select Military Records.

You should get several options scroll down a bit - then select British Army WWI Medal Rolls. When the search facility appears you can enter Parker and his service number. Hopefully the medal card record will appear

Fingers crossed

Well it took about 12 attempts but I got there thanks to you both.

In the past I just gave up and thought that he wasn't listed.

It may seem small to you both but I am so happy to have another little item to add to my collection to help locate his birth certificate.

On all his children's birth certs and his marr.cert he is Frederick John but after 5 years still can't find a birth cert to match.
The only birth cert which could be his says Frederick Robert
24th May 1886.I was hoping that they had to give their dob when they enlisted.

Thank you both again.Wendy

In 1911 census I found

Alfred Parker 47 Widow
J Alfred Parker 23 Single
R Frederick Parker 22 Single

Living at 101 Salisbury Street London N.W.
Alfred declares he had 3 children 2 still living
In all previous censuses I only ever found the 2 boys so I wondered if the Fred Robert or John arose with a child dying and Frederick John being given the birth cert for his brother - that did happen didn't it?

DaisyandWendy Report 23 Jul 2009 19:11

The other really odd thing I should mention is :

Frederick John Parker of 101 Salisbury St married
Eliza Amelia Amy Harris on 30th March 1911 just a few days before the census was taken and the marriage certificate says he is 24

A few days later he is 22 years of age, Frederick Robert, living at same address and single with no wife in sight!

Have I missed something - this is really driving me crazy ??

Hi Wendy

The only way to get to the bottom of this is to order some birth cert ( when you win the lottery) I have the same problem with ages they seem to change with the wind

Good luck and I hope you get the answer in the end

Wendy,

Dare I suggest this.

Now you have found out how to find the military records you might have to view each service record for Frederick Parker to find the right one as so many do not have birth year or location or regiment etc against them.

Usually if married before they join up they will show the name of wife and any children or if married when in service those details are usually added. Most will have next of kin listed such as parents or sometimes a brother or sister.

It will take you hours to do this but really no quick way.
