Looking for Susan Parker, born c1814 in Hinckley Leicestershire. She married James Brooke (c1815-1869) a carpenter from Birmingham and were living in the Ladywood district of Birmingham per the censuses of 1841, 1851 and 1861.

They had the following children - Charlotte (1838-19??), Eliza (1843-1925), James (1844-??), Joseph (1847-1869).

Would like to know more on Susan and the Parker family as well as the Brooke family if anyone can make a connection here.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the posting Gillian

I have a birth certif for one of their children showing Susan's maiden name as "Parker", so I'm sure I'm on the right tracks.

Not sure why they would have married in Coventry and not Birmingham or Hinckley, but I don't know how they may have met. Census returns show Susan as coming from Hinckley.

Trying to find birth details of Eliza who was my Great Grandmother, but so far it is eluding me.

Thanks again,
Chris

Charlotte was baptised 29/10/1837 St Martin Birmingham d of James and Susannah
her birth reg 1837 Dec Q Birmingham 16 216
James birth reg 1844 MarQ Birmingham 16 282
Joseph birth reg 1848 Sep Q Birmingham 16 351

But Eliza does not appear for Birminghamand I wonder if she was in fact born in Hinckley (maybe her mother went home to HER mother -this happened in my family) and if so this could be her reg
Eliza Brooks 1844 Mar Q Hinckley vol 15 page no indistinct could be 80

I wonder -I note from the censuses that Susan is 1841 born Warwickshire
1851 born Birmingham and only in 1861 does Hinckley Leicester come into the picture -is this your only basis for saying she came from Hinckley?
Because if so, and bearing in mind where they were married, there is

Susanna Parker bap 1/8/1811 St Michael Coventry daughter of John and Ann

O f course that will blow my idea about Eliza out of the water!

Thanks again for the info, Gillian.

It's true that the only source I have for Susan being from Hinckley is the 1861 census, the previous two both say Birmingham, but can't understand why that would be invented, especially as no others on that form say Hinckley. I could understand Birmingham simply being put as the others were from there.

I have found the death of a Susannah Maria Brooke in Birmingham on Free BMD and so have ordered the certificate from the GRO and it should arrive this week. I'll let you know what it reveals.

I already have James Brooke's death certificate. He died in 1869, after Susan, and the witness is the son James.

I have Charlotte living with Eliza on the 1911 census in Liverpool and so am convinced that they were sisters. On that census Eliza states that she's from Birmingham as she does on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census returns.
