Trying to find Rhodes

I am trying to trace my ancestry and I am looking for details of all people in the WISBECH area with surnames of Knights, Rhodes and Southwell.

My father was Richard Alfred Rhodes b 7/12/1914 but he was always known as Alf. I have also found a reference to him as Alfred Richard Rhodes. I cannot confirm which of these names is correct as a search for his birth certificate has drawn a complete blank.

I have located a birth record for Richard Alfred Godfrey born on 7/12/1914 with mother's name Florence Rhodes I know my father and his mother were parted during the 1914/1918 war.
I met a Florence Nobbs who was reported to be his mother - she had re-married a William (Billy) Nobbs and lived in Watford at that time

Can anyone cast any light on the possibility of how my father who was born as Richard Alfred Godfrey could become Richard Alfred Rhodes
