I think the 1861 census above is right but James is her grandfather, not her father.

I have a feeling that Caroline lied about her age on some of the census years.

I think there is a chance that this is her birth (based on place of birth on some of the census. She gives Ash, Surrey as place of birth in one census.):-

Name: Caroline Hone
Year of Registration: 1850
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Farnham
County: Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex
Volume: 4
Page: 170

Perhaps the "Susan" was added at baptism or at a later date.

I think this may be her as a visitor in Lincolnshire in the 1871 census:-

Name: Caroline Hone
Age: 20
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1851
Relation: Visitor
Gender: Female
Where born: Aldershot, Hampshire, England
Civil Parish: Firsby
Town: Firsby
County/Island: Lincolnshire
Country: England

This census gives her place of birth as Aldershot (which is right next to Ash)

If you look on freebmd site and type in Susan HONE with a spouse of surname RING, there is a match for a William Thomas.
Typing William Thomas RING into the death search there shows one of 44.
Could this be your family...?

Susan

Susan Report 25 Jan 2009 15:52

Hi, can anyone help. My G. Grandmother was Susan Ring, born 1847c Susan Hone) A few possibles in records but no positive links as I dont have any definate info. Dont know her husbands name but he died aged 44yrs.They had 4 daughters that I know of Effi,Millie,Nellie and Gertrude (my nan) Cant get any further with tree as so many missing links. Grandad Alfred William Jarman, born 1869 W.Ham married 1891 had 3 sons poss Alfred, Cyril, other? as a widower he then married Gertrude Ring, they had 3 children, my mother being one of them. She remembers a young man,Leonard, calling at the house who would have been the son of one of her fathers older boys. His previous family were sadly never talked about as my nan jealously forbade it. Now, My mum, now in her late eighties would love to know more about her half brothers and their families, hence my search. any leads to either the Ring or Jarman families would be much appreciated, thanks.
