good evening ,
can anyone help i have been looking for a birth record for twin brothes born in 1856.
thomas and richard roberts born in islington london.
i have found them on the 1861,1871 and i believe i found richard on the 1891 and poss thomas but notsure abt him.
what i cannot seem to find is their birth record you would think that if they were twins it would be easier to spot!
any help appreciated
thank you

Where have you been looking? If it was for a registration, you may not find it because birth registration didn't become compulsory until 1875.

Registration wasn't complusory until 1875. They might simply not have been registered.

hi all,
thanks for your help,
i have their parents as being george roberts and selina dont have a surname for her.
i have been looking on the birth reg silly me yes it probably was before registration didnt think of that.
oh i hope they were twins ,i have i think found richard on the 1891 census following in the trade of his father a gilder and i think thomas was a bootlaster whatever that was if they were twins it will be interesting to see how similar or how different their lives turned out.

If they were born in Islington, they wont have been registered in the Greater London district.

I think this might be the parents marriage reg.

Marriages Jun 1851 (>99%)

Clark Selina Islington 3 227
Roberts George Islington 3 227

It looks like the most probable as it took place in Islington, where it appears the birth registrations may have also taken place. Timing also matches the birth of their eldest child Selina (see census record above).

Hope this helps in some way.

Regards,
Rebecca

Selina's birth reg:

Births Jun 1852 (>99%)

Roberts Selina Islington 1b 211

Unfortunately too may George ROBERTS born Islington abt 1854 to be sure of his birth reg.

When you search the actual indeces the names are listed alphabetically. Maybe that's why the page numbers are different? Just a guess on my part.

Rebecca - they're only listed alphabetically in the index (Hallelujah) - in the register, they're listed by order of registration.
