I am trying to trace information about my great grandmother and her parents / siblings / grandparents. She was born Margaret Ann Roberts in Llanrwst around 1881. She married Albert Leonard Simpkin of Loughborough and they had four children, Sarah Ann, Florence May, Leonard and Frank.

There are a few possibilities unfortunatelyt! Do you have her marriage cert? Her father's name might help, also possibly witnesses as often family members.

I think Llanrwst comes under Denbigh for 1911.

There is this,a total guess, which may or may not be her, but of course you need her fathers occupation and name to find further back to be sure.

Thanks for your help everyone! I really didn't know where to start as I have limited information on her (until recently I was looking for someone with a competely different surname thanks to my mum!!) and it seems to be a very common name in that area! Janet, that does look like the right marriage as I know that their daughter Florence was born in that year in Chester so that is a great help! I guess if I order the marriage certificate that will give me a little more information. Thanks again for all of your replies! I will be so happy to be able to trace this section of my family!

Kindest regards

Rebekah

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some more help if anybody can oblige! I now have the marriage certificate for Albert and Margaret. It looks like Margaret was born in 1888, not 1881 as first thought. At the time of marriage in 1917 she was living in Rhyl. Her father was Hugh Parry Roberts (deceased) and he was a slate quarryman. I can't find any records anywhere online that match Margaret or her father, Hugh. Does anybody have any information or know where I can go from here? I thought I would be able to get somewhere with the marriage certificate but it has just thrown more spanners in the works!! Thanks for your help! Rebekah

Are the witnesses any family members and what is the address on it please?

Rebekah

Rebekah Report 18 Nov 2009 22:28

Hey,

The witnesses don't appear to be family members. The marriage took place in Chester, which is where Albert was living (17 Landbridge, Chester) but Margaret was living in Rhyl at the time of the marriage (Diperth Road, Rhyl). I also have an approximate date of death of 1960 in Loughborough if this helps? This is very approximate as my mum's recollection is quite vague. Thanks for your help, Rebekah

Rebekah Report 19 Nov 2009 22:18

Thanks for that Vivienne! I also had a look on free bmd and also managed to find a year of birth and death that might fit. With your info I will be able to order a marriage and death certificate. Shame he can't be found on the census anywhere though and he doesn't seem to be on any other trees on here either :-( Oh well, maybe an excuse for a visit to the land of my ancestors!! :-)

Well dont come anytime soon as it is piddling rain ,high winds and floods at the moment!!

When you get the MC and we know who he married and his rough age we may be able to find him on census then.

There was one possibility with father Hugh a slate quarry man ,but margarets sencond name was jane on census.
