Hello, I'm trying to trace anyone who might have known or heard of Doris Esther Roberts who was an evacuee during the 2nd world ward and was billeted at the Station House in Cwmyglo. Sadly Doris died in 1940 whilst in Wales aged 11 from diphtheria in Gallt-Y-Sil Isolation Hospital in Caernarvon and is buried in LLanrug Cemetery. We know that the couple she was staying with wanted to adopt her, but my grandfather (her father) refused. Her headmaster was Mr. G.T. Roberts of Llanrug Central School. He kindly organised the funeral and was one of her chief mourners as was Mrs. K. M. Williams. Coffin bearers were Mr.Ashcroft, Mr. Lappage, Mr. Humphreys Jones and again Mr. G. T. Roberts. The Rev E.Gronwy Williams BA, Christmas Williams and Merion Roberts officiated. Messrs. H. E. Roberts & Sons of Caernarvonnshire were the undertakers. Any information would be greatly appreciated, even if it's only that the cemetary still exists today, or who I could speak to with regards to finding out exactly where Doris's grave is. I have a number of photographs of Doris as a very small child, but nothing else. Many thanks. |
