I am trying to (a) Find Thomas Roberts no details of birth etc. known. - hemarried( (b)Alice Maude Higman (born Cripplegate ca 1862) In the 1891 census Alice was living in Bethnal Green with her two children Lionel(my grandfather) and Ethel. Also her mother Christiana Higman was living with her at the time. I have found a Thomas Roberts of the right age (32) in Bethnal Green Workhouse in the 1891 census but no record of his death Some time possibly within a year Alice died (no death certificate either) Leaving Christiana looking after the childlren in Tavistock possibly her sons Thomas and William lived there. Ethel was put into service at the age of 12 and my grandfather into an orphanage(no details so far) It is known he was apprenticed to a blind maker, before he met a Major Mason and was employed as a chauffeur. am trying to trace the lost years between 1881 census and 1908 when he married my grandmother Margaret Alice Oliver, and lived at Orme Court Stables, Kensington. I have no trace of him at the moment in the census of 1891or 1901. Any help greatly appreciated. Ann |
