Trying to find some help in my research of the ROBERTS side of my family tree. My grandad was a Leonard Edward George roberts born 25/3/1911 in castleford. he married a Doris Clayton born 1911. His parents were Leonard Roberts born around 1884 possible in east dean gloshire. he married a Selina Jane born around 1883. we have been told that it possible she was born in the fleur de lyles area. we do not know of her maiden name as yet. After their marriage they moved to wales and had their first 3 children there. A lily who died, a vera and a emily. they then moved to castleford where they had leonard, cyril and wilf. We have searched for leonard parents on the 1901 census and found a leonard, his mother and siblings lodging with a William evans in east dean, and it lists his mother as awidow working as a house keeper to mr watson. his mother is listed as Emily roberts aged 44 born east dean. Leonard aged 17 born east dean. Eva aged 14 born east dean. Emily aged 10 born east dean and albert aged 8 born east dean. In my mams family bible it has a mention of my grandads aunty emily who was born around 1890, which would make her around 10 or 11 in 1901, which matched with this emily above. If this is the same lady i think she lived somewhere around where the disater happened when coal heaps slid down onto a school because my gran used to tell us that aunty emily lost some of her family in it. If you are related to any of these people or know the family please get in touch, or if you can help in anyway. many thanks tracy |
