I am looking for any children or other relatives of a Frank Robinson . b 1917 in Sheffield I believe he moved to Hitchen/ Stevenage in the late 40's and had a partener by name of Joan. I have his death in Stevenage June 1999. I have also been told he had a daughter called Tanya //Tania ? with Joan ,but as yet have found no children of Franks . Any assistance appreciated

Kathleen -- you have posted the birth details of a person who will now be in her early 40s, i.e. undoubtedly living, and who has no idea that she is being discussed in public at this website, let alone that the details of her birth registration are on display here, in the context of a discussion that includes the likely fact that her parents were not married. If she is even the individual in question, which is entirely unknown.

SImilarly you have posted the birth and marriage details of people who may be completely unrelated to this inquiry and who are very probably living.

Any internet search engine can find this discussion. (Internet search engines do *not* find GRO entries, which in any event do not include discussions of people's personal relationships.)

All of this information can be sent by private message.

Janey/Canuck

I realise that you are very much against putting details on open threads about recent births but to be perfectly honest I cannot see anything wrong with anything I posted. These boards are already dying a death because people are not posting anywhere as often as they once were - I have been a member since just after the site started so can see the difference.

Nothing I posted could not be found by anyone by either doing an internet search of names or looking up the births, marriages etc.

I certainly would not class my posts as abusive - which is what Genes have told me they were reported as.

If you are so keen on personal messages could you not have sent me a message yourself asking me to remove my threads which I would have been happy to do?

I did not report anything as "abusive". I reported violations of the rule against posting personal information about third parties, after posting the request for removal. I'm not responsible for how the site management deals with its other customers.

"Nothing I posted could not be found by anyone by either doing an internet search of names"

I don't know how many times and how many ways I can say this: No, that information can NOT be found by internet searches of names. Not unless someone has posted it somewhere on the internet as was done here.

The issue here is not simply the posting of birth details - it is that it is done in a context, the context here being a discussion of the possible unmarried status of the individuals' parents, as an example. I cannot imagine that any of us would want this kind of information about ourselves being displayed on the internet.

I wish George good luck, and I would note that in fact the info posted is very easily found on a search of the GRO index database at Ancestry, by someone who knows what s/he is looking for.

My email from Genes was headed "Abusive Post Report" which I didn't appreciate.

I did not see your post asking me to remove my post so perhaps a pm. would have been a better idea in this case.

I'm afraid I will have to agree to disagree with you about the content of my posts. If everyone was so worried about information being on the internet there would be no point in trying to do family history research apart from visiting record offices which not everyone has the capability of doing.
