James Robinson death record wanted

Looking for the death record of James Robinson, husband of Caroline. Believed to have died between beginning of 1849 and March 1851, as by the time of the 1851 census Caroline was a widow. Last of their 4 children Alfred was born October 1849 so assuming he did not die prior to that year.

James was a carpenter and along with his family lived in Gt Stambridge Essex (Rochford District) but I cannot find record of his death in that area. He could have had links to the London area as their eldest son William was born in Popler Middlesex in 1841 (ref. 1851 census). I do not know James's birth date but Caroline was born c1814.

Any help with this would be much appreciated, thanks.

never never assume!

He may well have died before 1849, as a child born to a married woman, be she still married, separated or widowed, is assumed to be the child of the husband.

I have seen one case where a woman had 4 children after the death of her husband, and they all had the dead husband's name on the certificates! The last one was born 10 years after the death!

OR he may not have died at all ..... it is not unknown to find that a couple have separated, and then describe themselves as "widowed".

Have you checked in the censuses for him living elsewhere?
