Can anyone help me to find the parents of my g grandfather, born Middlesbrough 1870. I cannot find any trace of him prior to 1891 census where he appears as a lodger with his future mother in law Sarah Hanby, a widow living in the Easington registration district. I think he was probably illegitimate. |

Have you got his marriage certificate to see if he claimed/invented a father's name? |

Hi Patricia, You have obviously found the same information as I did, but his whereabouts prior to that are a mystery. He may have been born shortly after the 1871 census, which would explain why he is not there, but he should be somewhere on the 1881 census, presumably living with his mother and possibly a step-father. |
