I am looking for any information on John Robinson who was born in either Northallerton or Halifax, County Durham, England about 1849 and married Catherine Ann Collins (b: 1854, Northumberland) on 24th May 1873 at the Registry Office, Durham, England. Verbal history has John returning to England and taking up with a woman and having 13 children and dying in England. John, Catherine and daughter Sarah left Plymouth on the sailing ship "Samuel Plimsoll" on 3rd May 1878, arrived in Sydney 28th July, 1878. John stated his occupation as Shoesmith, although marriage certificate says Blacksmith. The address John gives at the time of his marriage to Catherine Ann Collins is listed as "Old Shildon". John’s father was James born approximately 1822 and his mother Hannah (maiden name unknown) born about 1817 from Malton, Yorkshire. After the death of Hannah before 1871 James remarried Isabella nee Peel who had had 2 previous marriages. If any of this rings any bells I would love to hear from you.
