Thanks,it sounds like him .I didn't have much luck in Scotland' s People as Scott was such a common name .
He was my great Uncle and I didn't even know he and his brother Archie ever existed until very recently.Their parents were John and Margaret Scott, originally from Craignish Argyll. His mothers maiden name was Ferguson

Thank you very much indeed- your help is much appreciated

Fione - that's NOT your Alexander then as the chap killed in action was the son of Alexander Scott.

I agree the you are looking for a fairly common surname but you can narrow the search by putting in a birth year +/- 1 year. You can further narrow it by entering only Glasgow City. If you live in Scotland, by far the cheapest way to search common names is by taking a day pass to the Scotlandspeople Centre. This cost £10 and you may look at as many entries as time permits.

Just as a matter of interest, the address you have given for Alexander's birth is the same as the address that the family lived at in 1901 - without his birth certificate, you cannot be certain that he was born there. The family may have been lodging anywhere in the City when they first arrived from Argyll

Is it possible, if you were unaware of Alexander and Archie until recently that they could have died before reaching adulthood?

It is possible one or both brothers died before adulthood.I've still to discover that
I,ve been in Scotland's People Centre before, but it's not so easy for me to get to Edinburgh, due to a disability. I will keep looking on Scotlands people on the web and see if I can find his exact birth address that way.

Thanks again for all your help

Just to say I have found Archie's wife Agnes Livingstone. He was Alexander's brother. They were married in Partick, Glasgow in 1921. I have found her death at 79 in Paisley, but not his death, or any sign of possible children. It is now looking strongly as if Alexander never made it to adulthood, but I will keep looking.
My thanks again to everyone concerned for their help

Agnes Livingstone's death certificate should show if she was a widow when she died which will narrow your search for Archie down a bit.

By the way are you searching for Archibald Scott rather than Archie as both are different names on searches.

Archibald Scott .......................Born Craignish 1895.
