My G-Grandfather had a number of brothers and sisters, most of whom I have located. However, I have lost sight of Walter James Taylor. He was born in Hooe, Sussex on 8th September 1885 (info in our Family Bible). His father was Edgar Foster Taylor (1847-1907) and his mother Louisa Carey (1849-1919).
Mum tells me that she thinks that he moved to Tunbridge Wells, Kent and may have worked on the railway. She believes that he may have married a lady called Maude and had two daughters (names unknown).
I realise that this is not much to go on. There are no marriages or census returns that leap out at me regarding Walter. Is anybody out there aware of these people? Is there anywhere else I can look?

Anyone with families in the Kent and Sussex area will find this site helpful

http://www.theweald.org

It has extensive details on the Taylors including an Edgar Taylor b1848 in Rotherfield Sussex

Thanks very much for the info above. I am pretty confident about Walter's ancestors, as it is my mother's family and we have good evidence (including from mum who is still with me). I believe your info, Brenda and Ken, is spot on. Thanks. My problem is to try and trace Walter to the present day. I will have a look at your suggested website, Katrinna - see what it turns up.
Will post my result, good or bad!

Thanks for the above. Unfortunately, still unsuccessful at finding any descendents for Walter James, although the "theweald" website looks very interesting. One to dip into occasionally.
I fear a bit of legwork may be required on this one!
Good hunting

Now THAT is interesting.
Certainly one of that generation of Taylors did go to Australia, but I thought it was his brother, Frank. Mum was quite convinced that Walter lived in Tonbridge, but it is quite conceivable that he lived there for a short while, then moved on. Certainly the date fits perfectly. I do have a couple of descendent's names from Oz / NZ (but contact lost) so I may try looking over there. I have e-mailed the NZ National library (to check the electoral rolls) as a Lester Taylor and his children were living in NZ in around the late 1970's. I believe Lester was the son of whichever Taylor left these shores, so will see what comes back.
Very many thanks, Brenda, and to all of you who replied
