I,m looking for family of Sarah Ellen Taylor born 1841 Wednesbury. She married William Waltho in 1858 and her father on certificate as Joseph Commercial traveller. then living in Wolverhampton.Th only census i can find for Joseph has him as a publican in 1841 ,or as a boltmaker in 1861.can only find a Sarah Taylor as a boarder in Eccleshall on 1851 census. Not having much luck locating anyone who has this family and can,t find on IGI.Any help would be much appreciated

This might be her birth -West Brom. covered Wednesbury back then, and Helen/Ellen were interchangeable.

Births Sep 1840 (>99%)
Taylor Sarah Helen W. Bromwich 18 525

Might help if all else fails!

Who are the witnesses on the marriage cert?

Wednesbury is one of those areas which because of the proximity of several registration districts sometimes make it difficult to pin down someones birth registration. I have in the past found the birth registration of people who claimed Wednesbury as their birthplace being registered in West Bromwich, Walsall and Bilston (Wolverhampton).

I wonder whether this might be your Sarah's birth registration:

What a terrible name for you to be researching - I have Lewises in Wolverhampton so I know what it's like. Thank goodness she married Mr. Waltho!
It's a bit much to encourage someone to get a birth cert .,especially when it's not 100% certain, but you might need to if you want to find out more.

Although it doesn't help it is worth remembering that it appears to have been quite common for someone getting married to "Inflate" their fathers occupation so that it sounded a bit more "Respectable".

Perhaps a commercial traveller sounded a bit more acceptable than a chainmaker or even a public house keeper.
