Another brick wall! I'm trying to find ancestors of the above, who was my Grandfather. My Dad knows nothing as he was raised in a Jersey orphanage after his Mother (John's wife) died.
His birthdate was December 5th, and he married Florence Dowinton late 30s/early 40s and had three sons.
And there's my brick wall :o)
A lovely lady has helped me trace my Grandmother's ancestors, but I'm really stuck now!
Thank you in advance !

I'll have a look for that marriage next time I'm at the Archive, poss Thurs. As your Dowintons go back to nearly 1800 in the Channel Islands it's a fair bet that Florence and John married here.

Thank you all so much for your help!

JerseyLily, I thank you for all your help already :o)

This is something I would dearly love to do before my Dad's 70th birthday, he really has no clue where he comes from, or anything about his Dad's side of the family in particular as he was raised in the orphanage after the death of his Mother from pneumonia.
Would love to see his face if I got this done in time, but I really do have a huge L plate slapped on my forehead!

Thank you all xx

The 1911 Florence D in Guernsey is not the right family, although the John Taylor in Mossley looks good.

Florence's parents were Florence Maud Ryan and George Edward Dowinton and they did not marry until 1919.

I should have the name of John's father by the end of the week.

I don't have access to the 1911 but this is Florence in the 1901 in Jersey

Name Age
John Ryan 44
Emma Ryan 43
James Ryan 20
Thomas Ryan 17
Emma Ryan 15
Matthew Ryan 11
Mary Ryan 8
Charles Ryan 5
Florence Ryan 2

I have traced the Ryans back to Daniel, 1832, Ireland, for Amanda.

And this is George Edward

Name Age
George J Dowinton 31
Margaret Dowinton 29
George Edw Dowinton 8
Margaret Dowinton 10
Mary Dowinton 6
Eileen Dowinton 4
Kathleen Dowinton 2
Victoria Dowinton 1
Julia Dowinton 3 MO

I believe George's great grandfather James, 1811, came from Guernsey which would explain why there are some Dowintons showing up in Guernsey.

John Taylor and Florence Dowinton married in St Helier on 31st May, 1941. John was 36 when they married.

Florence you know all about but John's father was Fred Taylor, who at that time was a Hotel Porter.

I don't have access to the 1911 but perhaps some kind soul will be able to find John, aged 7, with a father Fred in Mossley, Lancs.
