Leslie Report 19 Apr 2011 21:35

I have found the marriage of Charles Edward Taylor (b.7th May 1984) to Florence Mabel Keen on 7th February 1917 at Lewisham, London. Family rumour is that he had three children and married a second time, this time in Welling, Kent, in 1964. Lewisham and Welling are close to each other so i assume he stayed in the SE London area.

Rumour has it that one of the children died young.

Thanks in anticipation of any guidance

Stephen

Have you looked on free bmd for children with surname Taylor, Mother's name Keen from 1917 onwards?

patchem Report 19 Apr 2011 21:56

I am assuming you mean he was born on 7th May 1884, though I have not yet found a death.
Is this the second marriage, and have you got the marriage certificate for the first marriage, just in case Florence had been married before?

Thanks Patchem

I am wading through the large number of births with this name combination on bmd but would appreciate any short cuts.

I have his birth certificate and he was born on 7th may 1884 in Nottingham.

I have both his marriage certificates and the second one was post menopausal so no line from ther expected - miracles and Italian doctors apart.

The Bcert shows Florence Mabel Keen as a spinster, aged 25. He lived Lewisham and she lived Brockley - very close by each other.

You have said a large number of births.
I cannot see any from 1917 onwards in the correct area (London, Kent, etc)
Brentford in 1931 and 1936, which is a bit late.

patchem Report 19 Apr 2011 23:20

If she were 25 in 1917 she was born in 1891/1892.
This is the only birth I can see:
Births Sep 1890
Keen Florence Mabel Woolwich 1d 1226
Still not seeing any children.
What is her Father's name, and occupations, from the marriage certificate?
Thank-you.

I thought 424 births in 1917 and 399 births in 1918 for Taylor in London was a large number so had picked the SE London registration districts for detailed research and found nothing for a number of years.

His death certificate dated death at 7th Novermber 1974 and his second wife as the informant. At this date he was living in Seward Road, Hanwell, W7 and registration district of Ealing.

I have no information as to where he lived after the first marriage. His second marriage was at Welling Congregational Church, Welling on 20th April 1964 and address at that time was Crayford, Kent, which appeared to be a retirement home.

Florence Keen's father was shown as William Keen and a provision merchant.

Sorry, Florence had no rank or profession so she may have been living at her paternal address at the time.

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 20 Apr 2011 05:43

Is this her death? If so not enough time for lots of children.

Deaths Sep 1917
Taylor Florence M 30 Lewisham 1d 941

patchem

patchem Report 20 Apr 2011 07:02

After 1911, to search for children on free bmd you use both Father's surname, and Mother's maiden name.

'Have you looked on free bmd for children with surname Taylor, Mother's name Keen from 1917 onwards? '

You enter the Mother's surname at the same time as the Father's surname on free bmd.
So 424 births for Taylor in London becomes only one birth for father Taylor mother Keen in all England and Wales (in Tetbury,) in 1917.

Ozibird,
If that is her death, someone believes her to be older than the censuses found.

But not by much.

Lynski

Lynski Report 20 Apr 2011 10:32

If that is Florence's death that Ozibird found then they probably had no children. The district of Lewisham matches the marriage.

Marriages Mar 1917 (>99%)
Keen Florence M Taylor Lewisham 1d 1558
Taylor Charles E Keen Lewisham 1d 1558

?The child born in Tetbury is more likely to be the son of Edward T. Taylor and Elsie E. Keen who married in Tetbury in Jun Qtr 1913?

I wonder if Charles married again and then had his 3 children?
