Thomas arrived in Tasmania 1832 curiousy of the government in England - Convict - served 7 years before release. On 10/11/1851 he married Elizabeth Gould Catterson in Geelong, Victoria and settled at Newtown, Victoria (western edge of Geelong) and had 6 children.
Then he and his wife have disappeared,. No trace of death or buriel location.
There must be someone with a wedge that can give a hint to this. I have been unable to locate any decendents but will continue.
Cheers

Thank you Kerri
I downloaded the Will and boy it sure does have addresses etc. That was a gem.
I have been working around that Death Certificate you show but it fits spot on. So I think I will get a full copy of teh Convict record to see if I can open up the English end. That seems to be the stumbling block now.
Thank you for your help

Thank you Ingrid
I will have to look at those on the ship - there is always more there than one thinks. The younger sister you mention is actually her older sister by 4 years Bn 1829.
There cousins will be something I need to follow up.
Thank you Kev

Thats correct - it was 1832 not 1830 as I originally quoted. Sentence 7 years. He served his time in Tasmania / Australia. Released after 7 years - his record shows good behaviour. The next I know is his marriage in Geelong / Newtown in 1851 Victoria, Australia He was around the age of 23 when sentenced.

Hi Kevin
Maybe you already have these but...
The Argus, Saturday 6 October 1917 MORRIS.-On the 29th September, 1917, at her residence, Ascotvale, Elizabeth Gould, relict of E. R. Morris, aged 84, loving mother of W. T., Saml. C. and Emily Nokes, Mrs. J. Currie Smith, and Mrs. W. H. Sproston, a resident of Geelong for 63 years. She fought the good fight.
The Argus, Friday 21 April 1854 On the 4th inst., at South Geelong, Emelia Riches, wife of William Michael Catterson, currier, aged 54 years.
(above from NLA Newspapers)
Wm was born in Hull and Emelia was born in Suffolk. He remarried in 1857 to Mary Ann HOLMAN (nee REED, b. Sussex c1805) and died in 1872 aged 71. His mother's name was Elizabeth 'GOOLD' (death reg 6897).
It appears Elizabeth came out to Victoria with her sister before her parents and younger sisters.
Shipping info for Elizabeth Gould CATTERSON (16) with Eliza Jane (20) in Dec 1849 aboard 'Andromache'. Then Wm (52), Amelia (55), Martha (16) and Nancy (14) in Oct 1853 aboard 'Charles'. All as Assisted Immigrants. See http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/indexes/index_search.asp?searchid=24
Eliza Jane married in 1852 to Augustus Jas HOOPER, Nancy Susan to Wm WHELLER in 1856, and Martha Amelia to Frederick GLENISTER in 1858. So that accounts neatly for all of them!
Let me know if you need marriages/chn for the NOKES children.

Just looking at the EVANS cousins Ingrid found.
Frances Mary EVANS married Samuel ILES in 1851; they had chn Collwood area. Christina Letitia EVANS married Chas WINSTON in 1864. Possible marriage for Elizabeth Emily Finl EVANS in 1851 to Arthur BIRCHILL. Possible marriage for Maria Susannah EVANS to Hy FAIRTHORNE in 1851.
Aha, marriage for Francis Wm Finley EVANS to Ann NEVILLE in 1862!
Maria Susannah Princ FAIRTHORNE died in Daylesford aged 70 in 1892, d/o Wm EVANS & Maria CHAPMAN.
Francis Wm Finley EVANS died in 1907 in Brunwick aged 66, son of Wm EVANS & Maria Wilder CHAPMAN.
From here there is a marriage for Maria 'Wilden' EVANS in 1850 to Joseph HAYWARD. No death found for her unforunately.

Just by the by there is an interesting article at NLA newspapers about a case involving Frances Mary ILES, wife of Samuel ILES, who drowned in a water hole on Spencer St (from roadworks), aged 29, in 1856. She sued the contractor.
They had only 1 surviving child at the time, a daughter, and she was expecting a son. Tragically that son also died, aged 15 months, in 1858.
She did remarry, in 1866, to Ebenezer Jas DAVEY - her birthplace is shown as London. She died in 1878 aged 51, parents shown as Wm EVANS & Maria CHARMAN.

Hi I am a descendant of William Michael Catterson and Amelia Riches Chapman from their youngest daughter Nancy Susan who married William Wheller. I don't know whether you have been in contact with Bronwen Thomas who is presently writing a book on the Cattersons. Between her and I and a few more descendants of Willam Michael we can anwer a lot of questions. Bronwen (and now me!) have photos of Elizabeth Gould Catterson as well as her second husband. Interested in hearing from you soon Jenny Wheller Did you know of the Tom Roberts and Amelia Riches connection?

Hi Jenifer
Thanks MeJoy75 It was only by chance I checked this area yesterday - unfortunately postings don't get notified to me when they a happen
I have been helping a good friend with her research - and it also has showed that our two trees are linked - distant but linked. Interesting how small the world can be. In fact we have helped each other and that has been great.
Anyway Faye is the blood link to the Catterson's
In fact William Michael Catterson and Amelia Riches Chapman is her 3rd Great Grandparents. And that makes Nancy Susan Catterson her 2nd Great Greataunt.
If you would like to send me an email: [email protected] I would be happy to pass on her contact details to you. I was in contact with Faye overnight and she is happy for me to do that.
Thank you for contacting - always great to find out more.
